Occupational Hygiene is defined as the science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, control and confirmation of protection from hazards at the workplace that may result in injury, illness, or affect the well-being of workers and members of the community.

Businesses are required under legislation to ensure, as far as is reasonably practicable, that their employees are not exposed to any health and safety risks that may arise from the nature of their business.

There are many ways that workers can be exposed to health hazards. Hazards frequently encountered in the workplace include but are not limited to noise, vibration, chemicals and airborne particulates. Occupational hygienists use their scientific knowledge, skills and experience to identify hazards, assess worker risks / exposures and develop control measures to ensure safety within the workplace environment.
